It wouldn't be right without starting from Citizen M, the hysterical hotel we stayed in Amsterdam. From the space age shower and toilet to the total tech of the room, we really loved it. Check it out at www.citizenm.com. Every time I sat down to pee I expected to hear "Beam me up Scottie!"

Our short day in Amsterdam included a walk along the canals, so lovely, a typical Dutch treat- poffertjes, and of course a quick visit to the red light district where one receives an education in the newest sex toys by merely window shopping. LOL!! (no photos there)

Meanwhile we arrived in Kigali Wednesday evening and after Customs, Visas, and baggage claim were ready to be settled in somewhere, anywhere!
Rebecca, our US Embassy Fulbright Ambassador, awaited us with a smile and a large van. She told me there are lots of opportunities to be helpful here and showed me a photo of herself with Bono, (U2 singer), who just left, along with a contingent of Fortune 500 CEO's, looking to invest in Rwanda and the people. Sorry I missed that event. I'll keep in touch with her for sure.
For the past two days we've been living our own version of House Hunters International. We're now deciding between a brand new house overlooking the hills that needs a security guard and car, (brand new and beautiful)
Older apartments near downtown Kiyovu and KIST with electric stove, (location, location, location?),
and the modern apartment with swimming pool a 15min bus ride from downtown that has someone to clean and do laundry.(besides me!)
What should we chose? Thoughts?
The new house and suck it up and rent a car or motor scooter?, older downtown Kiyovu apartment and eat out every night or the modern apartment in up and coming Kacyiru and use the money we save on rent for taxis?
I'll let you know next time.....
PS I hope I get this post right, it's my first time doing this solo.

Love the Citizen M - looks like it is designed using shipping containers. Good way to start the adventure:)
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing you might choose the pool- although no photos of that one except for the pool.
